Moving Into a Casa Grande Home: A Lock Checklist
A short checklist for the first week in a new house.
Houses change hands with a lot of copies of keys out there: previous owners, agents, contractors and neighbors. A new set of keys does nothing about the old ones.
1. Count the doors
Front, back, garage entry, patio and any side doors. Write them down. That list is the rekey job.
2. Rekey every exterior lock
Rekeying takes the pins out and replaces them so the old keys no longer work. We can set every lock to one key, so you carry one instead of five.
3. Check the garage and the side gate
Garage door openers have codes that should be changed. Gates and side doors have locks that are easy to miss.
4. Mailbox
Private mailboxes can be rekeyed. Grouped cluster boxes belong to the Postal Service, so contact your post office.
5. Make spares, then hide none of them under the mat
Cut two spares and give one to someone you trust. If you want a smart lock or a keypad, talk to us first about compatibility with the door.
